Re: Elvis's Worst Song And Why

The Stamping Ground. It's just...dull, tuneless and lacking in interest of any kind. Which is something an Elvis Costello song should never be. Yes, that's one I agree with. I forgot to mention 'She'. That's a lovely song with huge potential. But Elvis' version is dreadful. And still it was such a ...

Re: Elvis's Worst Song And Why

'Sunday's Best' and 'Playboy Into A Man' were two major reasons why I started listening (and loving) Elvis Costello back in 1992! :D Anyway - worst song you ask? 'The Stamping Ground', I'd say. I usually prefer to skip this one. But all in all, EC is one of those artists with surprisingly few 'worst...

And plays beautifully too!
I haven't tried Side D though :D

Album also benefits from being detached from the disastrous Il Sogno!

My copy arrived today, and it's a beautiful, lush edition - in a rich gatefold. The cover artwork is very effective on 12".
So... well worth checking this one out!

Reminder - Deep Dark Blue now out on vinyl - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B017692BS6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00 I picked it up - a nice straightforward vinyl release. A beautiful recording to spin. I'm glad they didn't gloss the sleeve (as the label seems to be pron...

I've got the audiobook in a nice little box set of some 15 CDs. The longest Elvis Costello album ever! ;)

Re: Extreme Honey debuting on Vinyl , Feb. '15

Now that Music On Vinyl has released Extreme Honey and Deep Dead Blue on Vinyl, doesn't it seem like there is a very real possibility that they could put out a double LP set of the Costello & Nieve 5-EP box? That would be cool - how about five 10" records?! (their website allows you to sen...

Re: 2016...

Rather a strange idea, but this topic sort of suggests it (at least to me): Totally unfounded and entirely a 'gut feeling', but seeing EC in recent pictures and videos, I get the impression that he is not well --- either physically or mentally. H'e sort of not fully 'with' the situation, a vague abs...

Re: New autobiography from Bruce Thomas , July 2015

I've almost finished it, and I'll miss it. A great insight in the music world in a delightfully semi-sarcastic, self-deprecating, humorous, human style. Yes, he puts in little digs, but me being an E.C. for many many years, I'm sort of used to that sharpness and irreverence. If anything, I think at ...

I like that metaphor - encapsulates the urgency, cold emotion, and the cramped pose of early E.C. quite well

Makes one wonder which piece of furniture we should picture him in/on these days

Bachelor #2 or The Remains of the Dodo

I thought some of you might like this: 2 or 3 years ago I recorded my own version of the entire Aimee Mann album - all 14 songs. It's rough and tumble, but some songs turned out quite nicely. And it's one of my favourite albums (from back in the day when I thought that Aimee Mann was going to be the...

Re: I need an album

He seems to have lost his faith in albums? And this purely on economical (not artistic) grounds? The train came off the rails in 1996, when the last tones of 'I Want To Vanish' lingered in the air. There have been plenty of albums and projects since then - many signs of 'returning to form'. But for ...
