Re: Spanish Model, Sept 10, 2021 - New release based on one of Elvis Costello and the Attractions most celebrated albums

Isn't it a bit worrying thatmany people seem to enjoy the (almost complete) absence of Elvis Costello on this release? He had already proved that he doesn't have to wite new lyrics (Wise Up Ghost) write melodies (too many songs in recent years) sing in tune (first in concert, recently also on record...

Re: Spanish Model, Sept 10, 2021 - New release based on one of Elvis Costello and the Attractions most celebrated albums

One of the reasons I've stayed in love with Elvis (since 1978) is that he's never seemed like one of those artists that knocks out an LP and then takes three years off before they think 'I better try and write some songs for a new LP'. In my head he's constantly writing, constantly thinking about h...

Re: New album with the Imposters in 2021?

Totally agree with the above. Especially in this time of pisstaking streaming services where artists get peanuts, Elvis can do whatever he wants to try to exploit his talent. No-one is forcing anyone to buy any of it! As long as he makes sure that his talent is involved in the product we are offere...

I feel unable to express my nitpicky opinions after this now :D Well, I'll recover, don't worry :D don't forget, different people have different experiences. For me EC is a national treasure for all the amazing things he's done in the past (and influencing several decades of my life). He certainly d...

Re: "La Face de Pendule à Coucou" EP (French versions of Hey Clockface songs)

I got a copy after all. (I was in the shop to buy Prince's 'The Truth' LP, evidently, and saw this one too. Aw, twist my arm. I bought it ...) The overall result holds together well, and the sound is strong. Especially in the Tsheguer remix of Hetty O'Hara jumped out for me (which I think is partial...

I wonder whether they are going to honour this? It looks very much like an error of he decimal sign? Or a digit missing? Oh well, I gave it a try. For that price I wouldn't mind having a spare copy! OF COURSE THEY WILL!!! it was a bargain clearance sale. they got rid of the 40 or 50 copies that wer...

I have to say, I don't think it's 'thin' at all. I think it's new and exciting stuff. Experimental, challenging, interesting, and well worth a listen. I honestly don't know any other artist who, at 66, is still interested enough in music - or in their own music - to be even doing this. You want 'th...

Re: early bugs!

It's an endless source of curiosity to me - this thing about the bits of a track that backing musicians contribute, and the credit they get for that. I note that 'Hurry Down Doomsday' is indeed credited to 'Costello/Keltner', but that - for example - Bruce Thomas doesn't get a credit for the bassli...

Re: early bugs!

Wow - so did the MLAR song use a sample? It sounds exactly the same! The CD booklet says that Elvis composed the song 'over a series of drum and tuned percussion loops assembled in advance by Jim Keltner'. Which is true, Jim Keltner is credited for it on the Ry Cooder album. Did Jim Keltner create ...

Since Elvis himself is so inclined to point out his influences, here's one that I only just now picked up:

Have a listen to what Jim Keltner contributed to this 1987 Ry Cooder song :D
