No bonus disc! That's too bad, I was really looking forward to hearing "Almost Ideal Eyes" with the orchestra. Where did the notion first appear that there WOULD be a bonus disc? Was it an official source? I wonder why the opted to scrap the idea. It would seem like just the trick to get a...

Based on what I'm reading, it looks like that is the US tracklisting, but that somewhere in the mix, the UK also gets "She's Pulling Out The Pin."

Yay! "She's Pulling Out The Pin"! I was worried we wouldn't get to hear it. Great interview.

Hard to say. Many of them are kind of like "behind the scenes" features, in a way. Like Brutal Youth and Imperial Bedroom feature a lot of alternate versions which sort of show you how the songs evolved, mixed in with a few b-sides. In some ways, I'd say my favorite ones are the ones that ...

I agree that the AB bonus disc is awesome, but I can't agree with you about the Trust bonus disc. I love them both so much. The alternate version of Hoover Factory makes me happy. The only bonus discs I don't really listen to much are MAIT and BY. I don't know why-- I guess there isn't much on MAIT ...

Delivery Man leakage

So far, compared to the last two EC albums, I have to admit that Elvis and Lost Highway have done an admirable job of keeping the album off the 'Net. By this point, little over a month before release, both North and WIWC were spreading around like wildfire. But there is still no sign of Delivery Man...

I agree. I think there was a brief, two month period of time when Elvis actually took an interest in his own website. He clearly didn't give a care by the time that North came out. It's his own loss, because it only takes a small amount of energy to "energize the base" (to borrow an electi...

Elvis, where art thou? His website was really cool when WIWC came out. He answered questions, posted his journal, and it was really exciting. Looking back, I think he must have been in the final stages of his marriage falling apart, and it was pre-Diana Krall. Hence, he had the time and energy to de...

On the new AB reissue, I believe that the parenthetical "Hot Burrito #1" has been dropped entirely, and it is just listed as "I'm Your Toy." In the liner notes, EC makes reference to the fact that they "re-named" the song. I wonder, does one have to get permission to do...

I love how Uncut docks Kojak Variety one star compared to the others with absolutely no explanation. Especially since it is one of the finest reissues Costello has released. Overall, this batch is so stellar that it boggles the mind. Almost Blue, which has often been dismissed out of hand by fans an...

The cd format, with its 80-minute limit, has allowed far too much overindulgence. Most of the great albums of the last few years have reverted back to the 45-minute limit. Good to Elvis has, hopefully, reached the same conclusion. I would agree in general-- most people can't sustain the quality for...

IB is not my favorite. And yet, I would love him to make another "pop" album with orchestrations. His penchant for melancholy seems to make him favor using orchestrations for his sadder songs (a la NORTH). That's great, but if he's going to keep tipping his hat to ONLY THE LONELY and NO ON...

But I imagine he's saving it all for the book now. I can't wait, he is a witty and intelligent writer of prose. Re-reading them, I found it interesti...

Sometimes it just feels right to play these songs even though they’ve been heard many times before. The Impostors are a new group despite the presence of Pete and Steve in the line-up. I made a joking reply to recent question about the extent of our repertoire in which I said something to the effect...

Sunday, May 5, 2002 This is the first in a series of occasional dispatches about my recent adventures. Still, to be blunt, there's an air of 'silk purse out of a sows ear' about the whole thing. The album itself was a misfire; the b-sides are that exactly, b-sides. I think the album is much more than a misfire. If Costello had retired in 1990, it would have been more of an oddball record, but it mak...

I will second that. The South Bank Show about the making of Almost Blue is essential viewing, and I am sad that it won't be bundled with AB as a bonus DVD. When I first heard AB, I didn't really care for it. I have grown to like it over time, but after watching the SBShow, my appreciation for it gre...

I wonder if Love That Burns will be on the new album. It seems like a good possibility, given that he played it at the April concerts where he was trying out new material, and carried it over to the July Lincoln Center evening when he was previewing Delivery Man songs. It seems like it's been a long...

How wonderful to know that his aim is still true.

Thank you, Barbara Hoffman, for your clever turn of phrase! You are an inspiration to other journalists, who I hope will pick up on this line and use it in future profiles of Elvis Costello.

Show was exceptional, but the sound quality wasn't as good as I thought it would be either. During the first few songs, the bass was so strong that I could feel it in my chest. I only really noticed the sound was weak when it came to the new songs and I was trying to make out the lyrics. It was sor...

what a great night

two corrections to the set list: he also played "Heart Shaped Bruise", and "Invisible" might be called "Button My Lip" I liked tonight so much more than Tuesday, which was great but had a few too many North ballads for my taste. (I like North, I just think I've heard th...

What does "Honey are you straight or are you blind?&quo

Can anyone explain this song to me? Is it about a guy dating a lesbian? Or what? Maybe I'm just dumb. I can never tell if Costello is changing points-of-view within a song, and there is always so much detail left out, I can never follow the plots of his songs.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but how do we know that these tracklists are accurate? After all, this is a useful, but unofficial website. The info is always subject to change, but nunki's info has almost always been accurate. And in the rare case that his advance information has been different from...
