That's a hell of a compliment. Thanks!

You are a complete fucking moron. First, I'm not a southerner. i live in the south, but was raised on the east coast. Second, it has nothing at all to do with American pride. It has to do with thinking the words are beautiful. I feel the same way every time I read the Sermon on the Mount or when I r...

It's different enough for me to keep coming back to it. Some people claim to like it better than Illinois. You could always check out the sound samples at Amazon.com.

To be fair, Kanye didn't say "George Bush hates black people." He said, "George Bush doesn't care about black people." The charge was one of indifference, not antagonism.

Kanye West doesn't care about George Bush.

Musically, I think Kanye has some really intersting stuff. But he's out there.

He has one other state album, which is the excellent Greeting from Michigan . And you're correct that that was the first state album. He's coy about whether he really intends to make 48 more albums. I think he should release a few singles and EPs to cover the tough ones. After all, no one really exp...

Re: I Am Not Worthy....

Since I purchased no Elvis Costello albums AT ALL between Mighty Like a Rose and When I Was Cruel (it's a long story), what do you recommend as the 5 must-have albums from that decade? If you mean what Elvis albums to buy, then there are two essential purchases you have to make immediately: Brutal ...

I don't deny that Jazz/Blues/Rock n Roll owes a huge debt to Satchmo, but to say that 'popular music' wouldn't exist is just daft. Music may have taken different paths, but it would still have found popular forms. I think he meant popular music as it exists today. Certainly some form of music would...

Yeah, I was being sarcastic about that too. Moynihan is the only person on your list I have a modicum of respect for. You know, reading back over all this, even without regard to foreign policy, I just don't think you ever made a case that sticks for why King would have appreciated even your neocons...

On your next to last point, where you finally get what I've been telling you for a while. I am glad you find it a fascinating argument. I do too. Sorry. Well, there's strident anticommunism, and then there's McCarthyism. I'm not calling neocoons McCarthyists. I'm just saying there's a line, and I think the majority of neoconservative writing I've read on foreign policy is unreasonably bellicose, arrogant, and short-sighted. Irving Kristol isn't as b...

And VG I dare you to go and ask a Mexican if he is moved by MLK's speech, see how much he cares. None of my friends have ever said anything about it even when realising the historical importan...

Not so fast. It's interesting that you cite Nathan Glazer as one of "your" neocons, considering his opposition to affirmative action, which King would certainly have supported (his wife, children, and closest allies in the Civil Rights Movement certainly did and do). Also considering that ...

Another point about King and liberalism. His views were so far left that many considered him a closet socialist. He was even labeled a communist sympathizer by Hoover. Not that he was. i just find it fascinating that his views could be characterized as neoconservative.
