Re: Elvis Costello SOLO across Europe this Autumn
I had the middle two.........timed out........then the next two along........timed out........then two at the other side........timed out I swore and made gestures at the laptop which clearly made a difference as the timing out stopped! Every time I have seen Elvis in Scotland, the same chap is alwa...

Re: Elvis Costello SOLO across Europe this Autumn
Edinburgh ticket secured  Ok, so I had to swear at the Usher Hall ticket system a few times, but it worked in the end. Spare front row ticket as I wasn't allowed to buy and leave a single seat on the row  Like it hasn't crossed their mind that sometimes single people go to concerts too? ...

Hopefully he heads up to Scotland in July as it would be great for some really random venues to appear on the schedule........

Re: books, books, books
Currently working through Haruki Murakami's IQ. He is a favourite author of mine after I read The Wind Up Bird Chronicle. I'm not a huge fan of fiction, but I do find that I can completely lose myself in his books. Also reading With Hope in Her Heart which is about Anne Williams struggle for justice...

Re: Elvis ( solo) plays Bexhill, July 17 2014
I've also went for a ticket closer to the stage. If I'm going to be travelling down from Edinburgh for the gig, I reckon I should at least get the best seat I can! Being 5 ft tall (short?) it also helps if I minimise the number of people in front of me to stand any chance of seeing anything! Now, c'...

Looks like there's a group of us midway back then
I definitely think these things should be staggered according to height - us shorties at the front
ents24 seems to be the ticket site for the seats closest to the front - looks like they have stalls row C available just now

Re: New Gig Thread
Well, been to a few gigs of late! I don't think I covered Graham Parker and The Rumour in Glasgow (one of my gigs of the year), Travis at the Picturehouse, Glenn Tillbrook at the Liquid Rooms, Miles Kane at Eric's in Liverpool and Ocean Colour Scene also at the Picturehouse! I've seen Miles Kane a f...

Re: Elvis ( solo) plays Bexhill, July 17 2014
I'm back in row K - it looks as if some of the 'better' seats are on the ents24 website.............I'll wave to you all from the back! It's a long way from Edinburgh to Bexhill but the main thing is that it's hopefully the first of many 2014 gigs! It's my birthday on 2nd July so a nice wee Scottish...

Re: Recently viewed films
Went to see the movie Sunshine on Leith last night (in Leith ironically) and while it's fantastically shot and shows off the tremendous scenery Edinburgh has, I wasn't overly impressed with the film as it was much too close to the stage show for me to ever be comfortable with it (it was a bit too mu...

Re: New Gig Thread
Start! was the only song by The Jam at the Barrowlands, but at Edinburgh Castle he did also play That's Entertainment. There's always a marked difference in the crowd when he plays The Jam songs :D Finishing with Town Called Malice is always a great way to close a gig. Incidentally, I know there's a...

Re: "Elvis Costello: Mystery Dance" - documentary, 2013
The clip on vimeo is just fantastic! The early photos of Elvis and, in particular, the video of his Dad performing make this the best thing I have ever seen on the internet.
I might be exaggerating, but not much Can't wait for the full lenth versions to appear.

Re: New Gig Thread
Had some great gigs last week - John Fullbright (The Pleaseance, Edinburgh), Charles Bradley (Glasgow O2 ABC) and Paul Weller (Glasgow Barrowlands  ) Firstly, I've lived in Edinburgh for 15 years and never been to The Pleasance for a gig so this was a new one on me. I have to say, it was a rea...

Re: New Gig Thread
Well, it's been a few weeks since I saw Paul Weller at Edinburgh Castle. Firstly, Edinburgh Castle is a picturesque venue, but it's rotten in just about every other way, especially for those gigs which start in daylight. Anyway, venue aside, I thought this a so-so gig. I'd never seen Weller before, ...

Re: New Gig Thread
A very good week for gigs for me! First up, Kenny Rogers as a treat for my 79 year old Grandmother, although a bit of a guilty pleasure myself too. My Gran showed me how to put on a record for the first time when I was about 3 or 4, and I can remember clearly that it was 'Coward of the County'...

Re: Elvis supporting Elton John at Hyde Park Friday 12th Jul
For me, the line up is an absolute dream albeit in an arena other than Hyde Park! And it will be interesting to see what the line up will be as I would expect the headliner to play the longer set, although if Nick Lowe is having to move from the smaller stage to the main stage, it may be that the gi...

Re: Elvis supporting Elton John at Hyde Park Friday 12th Jul
"Knees up muvva broywwwwwn" No Glastonbury for me. I had to opt for The Stones in London as I could cash in some airmiles and stay in another Easy windowless room for £40, so it worked up far cheaper than getting to Glastonbury. Had relatives over from Sydney for the first time in 1...

Re: Elvis supporting Elton John at Hyde Park Friday 12th Jul
I'm heading down for The Stones on the 13th and couldn't believe when I saw Elvis was playing the day before as my flights and hotel are all in place for the Saturday. Shame I couldn't have added Elvis to the trip again
