Dylan was/is a great poet/writer.
The Beatles were great writers of whimsy and great writers of catchy pop tunes. In terms of a musical act, the Beatles win hands down.
Although I did like Jimi Hendrix, Manfred Mann and Burl Ives

I am a Technical Writer for a software engineering company. That is probably the last thing I would have imagined myself doing. As a kid I aspired to be either: a) a fireman b) a train driver c) one of the Beatles (but that job was taken - although I did sing in bands for a couple of decades) Your f...

It was a natural step. BTW, as MacCartney said, Dylan was a hero for them. And i can´t see how Lennon could write such songs as I´m A Loser, Hide Your Love Away or I´m The Walrus without Dylan. MacCartney said that he even bought a hat - after seeing Dylans debut album cover. One could argue that D...

God Give Me Strength - this sends shivers up and down my spine (and I'm not even religious ;)) So Like Candy - the ultimate break-up song. Shipbuilding - beautifully understated vocals Let 'em Dangle - don't know why exactly... it just appeals Eisenhower Blues - a great romp in which EC exercises hi...

It is certainly anyone and everyones prerogative to abstain from commenting. I abstain from commenting on many of the subjects that begin threads because I am either ill-informed or I don't have a strong opinion. But to cast dispersions as a way to discredit the original post without addressing a s...

If the United States will be successful in protecting our soil against future heinous attacks on the homeland, then the language is Power. If you believe that gentle diplomacy works, read the history, and read the papers, and re-read this item #4. And be aware that since the invasions of Afghanista...

Sorry bobster , but I do have a copy of Cagliostro ;) I originally had it on VHS years ago (released on the Manga label) and got it again as soon as it was released on DVD. We actually have just about the entire Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli catalogue including all of the major titles such as Grave o...

Actually, the trains in Madrid were blown up using back-packs loaded with explosives and detonated using a mobile phone. I epect that they use marshalls to keep an eye out for suspicious looking packages? I would think though that they are doing the usual trick of shutting the stable door after the ...

Speaking of titles on Criterion, I finally watched M last night. I had always thought I was too stupid for that sort of thing, but the man of the house plied me with wine and made me watch with him. Oh my God, is that the scariest movie ever made or what? It starts off with a bang, with the childre...

I'm not much into herd mentality. I'm a lone animal. Most folks go along with the crowd, but I never have. Take offense if you like, but I prefer to be challenged. Red Shoes is right. Thanks Time. I will, then, give them a try when the trilogy DVD comes out. Should I read the books first, or go in cold? If you intend to read the books at some stage anyway, then I would definitely recommend reading them first. The reason I make that recommendation is not for the background that t...
