Re: Elvis's Worst Song And Why

"Tokyo Storm Warning" is a favorite of mine, from a top 5 Elvis album. I really like the monotony of the groove and many of the turns of phrase in the lyrics: "Japanese God-Jesus robots, telling teenage fortunes" etc. Blood and Chocolate is an album of never-skips for me.

Re: Elvis's Worst Song And Why

Some other candidates, IMO: --Party Party --Seven Day Weekend --My Three Sons --Brand New Hairdo It's always interesting to me that Elvis has scorned Party Party for all these years. While not a top-tier song, it has a nice horn chart and is a peppy tune. Doesn't seem to rate the amount of disdain ...

Re: Elvis's Worst Song And Why

My standard answer to this has always been "Dr Luther's Assistant", just cause it's so draggy. I'll also toss out "Broken". And second or third "Button My Lip", which is a too-long start to an album that I love.

i think the Drifters recorded it early on, but I've always enjoyed this Ry Cooder take on it:

A great choice this week. I've always thought of this song as the New Wave version of a Roxy Music song like "Mother of Pearl" with it's manic first half and then quiet second half.

Wow! Great song from a great album. Has Elvis covered many T Bone songs before? I can't really recall any.

Just returned from this show. Holy f*ck! Imagination (Is a Powerful Deceiver). King of Confidence. Poor Napoleon. Super-electric My New Haunt. Couldn't Call It Unexpected. All These Strangers. All the songs from the new album really benefited from being heard in their stripped-down state. It gave me...

I think it would be a great project for some young upstart band to record these songs as they were intended.

And I liked seeing the Attractions playing Puppet Girl on their reunion tour back in the day.

Their first two albums are really fun, sunny day albums. Looking forward to this one. Although I was hoping that the Marshall Crenshaw song would have been part of the CD.

NY/NJ Swap

I was lucky enough to get tickets to the Beacon show on Monday the 23rd. Unfortunately, it turns out I am going to be away on a trip and won't be able to go. Anyone want to swap 2 tickets for the Wellmont on the 18th for my 2 tickets for the Beacon on the 23rd?

Anyone?

Excellent clips. Watched them all. Shame that 'Concert Chick' only went for the greatest hits, though. Much as I love Elvis, the camera is positioned perfectly for a detailed study of the mighty Pete (although on Chelsea he's in total darkness!). Much as when, so many years ago now, I've seen this ...

Re: How many times have you met Elvis and what have you aske

I met him once outside the stage door in Pittsburgh during the Imperial Bedroom tour. A star-struck 20-year-old lad, I asked him what the opening line to "Luxembourg" was. This was in the days before lyric sheets and the Internet, so my friends and I had many conversations about that line ...
