And in case you're wondering, that is indeed me yelling "Yeah!" after the "drummer who threw up in the sink" line in "Ghost Train".

Re: Elvis Plays Port Chester Nov. 11, 2013 - Happy Veterans

Caught this thread after the show, but I'm sure we crossed paths last night. A fun show indeed -- especially since I'd jokingly predicted to my fellow 45-year-old companions that he'd play "45", and he did.

Re: New album for 2013: "Wise Up Ghost" (with The Roots!)

Okay. I listened several times, and took notes. (Coming soon to an Everybody's Dummy blog near you!) That said... I can't see giving this anything higher than three stars out of five. Why? Because too many of the grooves sound the same. The Roots are a great live band; anyone who's watched any two m...

Re: 40 DAYS OF ELVIS COSTELLO: A Countdown To WISE UP GHOST

Generally, you (cwr) and I agree on everything Elvis. Except that you like WIWC way more than I do, and I like the recording of "WIWC #1" way more than you do. This album has never grown on me, and I don't expect it will, but I'll keep listening anyway. These writeups are wonderful. I'm al...

Mr. crw -- so glad you've been writing about EC again. I had to resort to the Wayback Machine to revisit some of the old astheygo content, but your current format is doing wonderful justice to the canon. I wonder if the new album will live up to the 40-day build!

$25 plus shipping is an excellent price -- a fraction of what it cost to subscribe to the whole run back in the day.

Re: Defying Gravity- EC's Fallen

I was a fan from the first play, and it was one of my go-to 'it's chilly and dark out and I've just cracked a bottle of wine' albums. I realize I've been too preoccupied this fall to revive that tradition. We'll see what happens before the night is out.

Re: national ransom two years next week

Wow -- what's more shocking than the two-year stat is the admission that I haven't spent enough time with this album. Don't get me wrong -- I was happy with it then, and continue to be so now, but I haven't ingested it like I did Trust, KOA, B&C, MLAR, etc. Why is that? Have I not given it enoug...

Re: Bob Dylan's Tempest

Indeed -- it is his best record since "Love And Theft". Granted, that was only three albums ago, but I don't fawn over Modern Times and Together Through Life as others do. Tempest is a good record, but probably not a great record. My review should be up on the blog (see URL below) within t...

Re: 40 Terrible Albums by Great Artists - Guess which EC alb

I have never been a defender of Brutal Youth -- unlike many others, I found it forced and noisy. But I don't hate it. And I skimmed through the rest of the list at the link -- Back To The Egg has its charms, and Paulie's done way worse than that. And Coda shouldn't be there either, since none of the...

I've done much of the same thing, cleaning up commas I don't like, italicizing and capitalizing when necessary. Haven't printed it up in a pretty package though.

Re: Pete Fornatale RIP

In a time of my life where others would have spent in front of the TV, I spent all my free time within earshot of 102.7. Pete Fornatale's Mixed Bag, Dennis Elsas, Dave Herman, Richard Neer, Dan-O Neer, Marty Martinez, and of course Scottso, who played Beatle music at the start of every show from 198...

Re: Getting stuff signed after show

Elvis signed happily when I approached him after a Hi-Tone show. Pete was talking with a few fans out front and otherwise unnoticed, so getting to him was no problem. Outside the Letterman theater stage door Elvis signed a handful of things; a few people had album covers with them but I think he kne...

Re: '..it honestly could be years before I do that again..'

Pretty much. When he has songs, he'll record them, and find a way to distribute them. It would be in his best interest to distribute them himself, a la the Internet, but if he hasn't figured out how to do that in the past 10+ years, I don't know if he ever will. (Mostly because he likes the phyical ...
