Re: The Complete Armed Forces (Super Deluxe Edition)

Nick Lowe bundle at least got me a cool metal lunchbox. Though this looks pretty nice, I have my original Columbia Armed Forces, and then the Ryko that I think came out of the very first box set. Can’t justify this one. Mostly packaging or am I wrong? That lunchbox is sure sweet. It has a prominent...

I've really enjoyed all three volumes of this project. Some really nice and interesting arrangements of the songs--and it's nice to hear Steve's work on them.

Hoping the CD is released here in the States.

Re: The Complete Armed Forces (Super Deluxe Edition)

In later years, the song would also take on a notable change of lyric: In the recorded version the words are “She’s listening in to the Venus Line, she’s picking out names, I hope none of them are mine.” That meaning is clear enough: Whatever mating ritual the TV woman is doing, the singer wants no...

Re: 50 Songs For 50 Days - Elvis Costello's October Surprise

Always liked this one. Unfortunately here in the US, The River In Reverse is no longer on Spotify. So guess it'll be 49 songs in 50 days. 48, because we've already had the title track? :( The River In Reverse is on Pomp and Pout (as is Ascension Day), and that collection is available. Licensing... ...

Re: C & N New York 1996 2CD - legit?

Wish I'd seen the late show. I was at the early show, which was "challenging." Lots of idiots in the crowd--shouting, talking during the performance. EC was peeved, as was I. Oh yeah, I remember that. Lots of industry people at the bar talking throughout the performance. He finally called...

Re: Armed Forces Survivor - Round 5

Armed Forces was the first Elvis album I bought, shortly after it came out (I finally persuaded myself to buy it because of the bonus Live at Hollywood High EP). Accidents Will Happen lured me in, but Senior Service set the hook in deep. It was the song that made me an Elvis fan. I'm sorry to see it...

For those of us in the States, we heard Sunday's Best on Taking Liberties, where it seemed to be a better fit. I think it's a good song, but doesn't really feel like it's part of Armed Forces.

Am I the only one who voted for Lip Service the last 5 rounds? I mean, it's a fine song, but it shouldn't be the one ordering another round at the bar while Radio Radio calls it an early night.

BA... I, for one, wholly approve of (occasionally) polling people on "worst"s in regard to EC, or any artist. A while back I'd asked the Wiki crew to name his three worst songs, and I got some really indignant responses. My attitude has always been that, yes, this is a fan's site and we'r...

I was talking last month to a friend of mine who is a concert promoter here in the States. He was telling me that things won't start up again until sometime in the spring of 2021. People--promoters, bands, fans--aren't willing to make a commitment this year to squeeze themselves into an enclosed spa...

I think it can be hard to separate one's feelings for the music from their appreciation of cover art. I've tried my best to do that here: (1) When I was Cruel (2) This Years Model (3) Brutal Youth These are definitely not my top 3 musically, but they're my favorite covers. That's so true.
