Accidents will happen
David Dye of WXPN-FM (88.5) was at the Museum of
Television & Radio in Manhattan recently to host a
World Cafe chat and performance by Elvis Costello. The
show was beamed live to Virgin Megastore's 23 outlets
plus the museum's L.A. affiliate. A half-hour window
of satellite time was booked. Costello did a set, then
stepped offstage while a video was shown and
stagehands set up for the interview. But as the video
ended, Dye heard the stage manager screaming into his
headset: "Where the [dickens] is Elvis?"
Where was he? Absentmindedly walking back to the
hotel.
Filling the dead air, Dye found himself deadpanning:
"Elvis has left the building."
