Top 10 Condiments!
Top 10 Condiments!
The thread you've all been waiting for!!!
1. Worcester Sauce (essential for: lamb chops, steak, lentil soup and bloody mary's --now that's what I call a condiment!)
2. Steak Sauce -- practically any kind! I love steak sauce, perhaps even more than steak itself! (Don't ask me to choose just one!)
3. Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard
4. Thousand Island/Russian dressing
5. Mayo-mustard combos
6. Horeradish-y mustard
7. Horseradish-y sauces (i.e., "horsey sauce")
8. Soy Sauce! (low sodium preferred)
9. Garlic Mayo
10. Guldens Brown Mustard

Hadn't thought of those. (Is "garnishes" the correct term for those? Any chefs here?) I love those as much as anyone....
For the purpose of this list, let's stick to the sauce-y stuff!

My original post (which I accidentally deleted), asked Bobster if vegetables and cheeses and things like that are considered condiments, or if he meant sauces. Oops!
1. Buffalo chicken wing sauce (my supermarket, Longo's, makes this!). Yes, it's mainly used to cook chicken wings, but it tastes pretty spectacular spread on the inside of a bun.
2. Hellman's Garlic mayonnaise. Adds a yummy twist to burgers and cheeseburgers and turkey burgers and chicken burgers alike.
3. Spicy mustard. Makes my pastrami sandwiches zing even more.
4. Kikkoman Soy sauce.
5. Tzadiki. Is that spelled right? Perfect for chicken souvlaki, gyros, and even things that aren't greek in nature.
6. Pesto. Mostly thought to be just for pasta, but it also makes a great sandwich, particularly when melted cheese and mushrooms are involved.
7. Wasabi. Pretty specific to sushi and sushi-like products. I love spicy foods that don't result in pain. This results in pain, but damn, I like it!
8. Greek-style Hummous.
9. Ranch dressing. I love dipping my fries into ranch dressing.
10. Good ol' Heinz Ketchup

This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

1. Mustard. All types. The spicier, the better.
2. Salsa. Homemade is best, but On The border markets a fine store-bought salsa. If there's not plenty of cilantro, I'm not interested.
3. Tabasco. For anything humans consume that isn't sweet.
4. A really good barbeque sauce. Very few commercial sauces are worth bothering with.
5. Wasabi. I likes me some sushi.
6. Olive oil with Italian herbs. Amazing on bread.
7. My own recipe for dill dip.
8. A good mole (authentic Mexican food, not Tex/Mex).
9. Pitted olives for martinis. I don't know if this is technically a condiment. But I like them better than any other condiment I haven't already mentioned, so...
10. Mustard. All types. The spicier the better. Just in case there's a type I don't know about from #1.

You are a culinarily disguished group!
If I were do re-do the list, Tabasco (can't eat eggs without it!) would definitely be there.
And, if I were living in the UK, no doubt chutney would be there too. (Indian food for me is still such a change of pace or a special treat that I just don't feel, I don't know, comfortable enough to get overly intimate with chutney.)
Like salsa a lot, not sure it's in my top ten -- though I love salsa verde. And I really dig the avocado salsa that my fellow Californians can get at El Pollo Loco.
