Legendary technical guitarist Paul Gilbert returns with his second instrumental solo album "Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar," the follow up to his 2006 epic "Get Out Of My Yard." Though an international release is planned sometime in the future, "Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar" is out first and out now in Japan!

This time Gilbert comes on more sentimental yet more aggressive than ever. "Silence Followed By A Deafening Roar" kicks off with the equal parts scorching and emotional title track before taking the listener on an eleven-song journey spanning romantic tracks like "I Cannot Tell a Lie," blister-inducing instrumental metal tracks like "The Gargoyle," and all points in between. The album also includes covers of "Suite Modale" by classical composer Ernest Bloch, "I Still Have That Other Girl" by Elvis Costello/Burt Bacharach, and even a splash of Bach.

(extract)

My favourite tracks “I cannot tell a lie” and “I still Have That other Girl” are particularly expressive. How much of tracks like these are planned or is there a degree of improvisation allowed in recording ?

Paul Gilbert : “I Still Have That Other Girl” is an Elvis Costello and Burt Bacharach song. I just took the vocal melody and played it on guitar, so there is very little improvisation there. “I Cannot Tell a Lie” is also very planned-out. But I used improvisation to get the initial ideas.

The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance”
