Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .
Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .
There was a question featuring EC on University Challenge (UK quiz programme) over Christmas. They played some Christmas songs and the teams had to guess the artist. First up was St Stephen's Day Murders!

Anthony Quinn spots the Russell Crowe/Elvis Costello vibe in Les Mis - it may be credibile

A friend reckoned Crowe's strangulated voice sounded a bit Elvis Costello, and I spent the rest of the film trying to picture him in large black-framed spectacles. His poptastic stylings are different, at any rate, from the tremulous vibrato Jackman smothers everything in. But it's also mysterious that he wanted to play Javert, whose dedication to tormenting Valjean has no psychological interest and indeed comes to seem merely churlish. Perhaps he just liked pronouncing "monsieur" as "murh-shewer".

Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .
Browsing YouTube, I came across Stand up comedian James Inman, who has uploaded a lot of clips of EC here: http://www.youtube.com/user/jzenman/videos .
On his My Space page at http://www.myspace.com/inman.james, in the profile section James says:
One can only speculate whether those mp3s include any recordings that have not officially been released.
Has anyone else come across Mr Inman, or heard him talk about his appreciation for EC?

British comedian Mitch Benn has a band called "The Distractions" with whom he performs and records. This is their tribute to EC, which seems to comprise snippets of various popular EC songs, starting with "Less than Zero" then taking a familiar turn.

I bought of their singles 'it doesnt bother me' many years ago on white vinyl 7 inch. It ended up being a bit of a break tune for me when I was dumped by a young lady at the time. Cracking song very much of the time though.Man out of Time wrote:British comedian Mitch Benn has a band called "The Distractions" with whom he performs and records. From earlier today -
Pat O'Mahony @patomahony1
Anyone who ever recorded in @WindmillLaneRec get in touch with them. They're redecorating and need all old masters cleared out.
Back in Nov. '11 a friend, who was interning in Windmill Lane , sent me these photos - hopefully the recordings are safe!

Rage Records (where the late, great Road Records used to be, here in Dublin) had both formats of the Self Aid album. The Sgl has E.C.'s Many Rivers To Cross , the dbl featuring Leave My Kitten Alone.
Some information here - I'm going to do some scanning etc. tomorrow and beef up this wiki page - http://www.elviscostello.info/wiki/inde ... or_Ireland

It may be a response to the Countdown project . I've only had a quick look but I don't think any of these are in it.
Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .
"Less Than Zero" was in the Top 10 I think John, and "Clubland" was in there too. If "No Star" deserves to be in an alternative Top 100, I wanna hear it!
(Just had another look and both "Pills And Soap" and "Home Is Anywhere You Hang Your Head" are also in the Countdown Top 100.)
