EC Live at Apple's iPhone event
EC Live at Apple's iPhone event
Sitting watching a blogger report the Apple iPhone 5, then Tim Cook says they love music and ... here's some music
Oh lord, please don't let it be Coldplay....
And it's ....Elvis Costello.
First song 'PLU' and he's on to a second (either the blogger didn't know it or neglected to list it)
And he's plugged 'wise up' and doing Tripwire...

Music Legend Elvis Costello Takes To The Stage At Apple's Special Event
To round off an event that saw now one, but two iPhone handsets being announced, Apple has invited music legend Elvis Costello to the stage to perform a number of tracks.
The 59-year-old star, who is a Grammy award winner and inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, kicked off his mini-set with a rendition of Nick Lowe’s “Peace, Love, and Understanding.”
Costello then played “Radio Soul,” and reportedly said:
You had this Apple radio thing going on today. When I first got into the business, I thought radio was great. This was my imaginary song about radio before I learned how foul it is.
TechCrunch adds:
The crowd goes into a standing ovation for Costello as he finishes his second song. As they sit, he says “Oh.. i thought you were all getting up to dance!”
The musician then said:
Here’s a new song, from an album we’re just about to release next week. See? I’ve got product announcements!

Live Blog: Apple's New iPhone 5c Is Here, and Elvis Costello Helped
2:14: Cook finishes things up by bringing on a music guest.
Elvis Costello appears. (Yes, this is happening.) "How y'all doing?" he asks. "Wow, that's a lot of fancy stuff. I feel underdressed. I've got just my old Fender guitar. Wow, can I say Fender in here?"
Costello starts playing. No-one predicted that one, that's for sure...

That's a nice little payday for EC. Apple = $$$
Good for him; he deserves it.

Does this mean the twins each get their own iPhone 5?

Elvis Costello mini show a new never-before-heard song. Apparently he recorded some of the early vocals on an iPad in his kitchen.

This was so out of the blue and a brilliant move to promote the new album. If people didn't know about Wise Up Ghost, they sure do now.

Re: EC Live at Apple's iPhone event
This leaves me a little 'queasy'. EC, in essence, shilling for a corporate giant that is far from stellar in its ethical and business practices on the eve of the release of his latest record which, on the strength of the initial single released, "Walk Us Up Town", expresses a moral and social discomfort with the very ethos he is helping to celebrate on that stage. Walk me up town, indeed! Hard to believe I am the only one having a problem with that.

Re: EC Live at Apple's iPhone event
Far from the first corporate gig he's done in recent years. There's a certain amount of hypocrisy in it, maybe, but hey, great exposure! I love Elvis's non-hug of the Appleman at the end!
BBC news covered the release of the new cheaper iPhone for China but the bastards never mentioned Elvis's appearance!
Second known performance ever of Radio Soul!

You could accuse him of not having the grit he had in the past by not playing Radio Radio and biting the hand that feeds him, but then 59 and 23 are pretty different ages. Nice to hear it, anyway.
