The Boy If - album playback 19th November
Starting a new thread for the lucky attendees rather than this getting lost elsewhere.
It’s great that goon squad, sulky, sheeptotheslaughter will also be there plus hopefully JonPD’s tickets get taken.
It’s at Ronnie Scott’s in London from 12.30pm until 2. But if Elvis gets going he won’t stop! There’s nothing else booked at the venue that afternoon…
Not sure what to expect but I hope there are goody bags with Magnificent Hurt 7” promos and advanced copies of the new album.
Even a Mystery Bag will do!

Very disappointed I can't go.
My tickets have gone to ExtremeHoney, hopefully it will all work out.
If the Magnificent Hurt 7" is available I hope my name is on one of them!

Re: The Boy If - album playback 19th November
I think the rest are in the pub, I had to go back to work.
It was a truly marvellous event. About 12.50 the host came out, explained they were going to play 5 songs and then Elvis would come out and talk about the new record.
they played Magnificent Hurt, Penelope Halfpenny, what if i cant give you anything but love, Mistook me for a friend and paint the red rose blue.
all sounded great booming out of the speakers. Elvis then came on was asked a couple of questions by the host which of course being Elvis took ages to answer. He then took questions from the fans. The only one we had time for was from Goon Squad.
he explained why he played the RV last night, spoke very fondly of the band. got very emotional talking about his father whose anniversary is next week. There was so much chat I cant remember it all. He did say they were looking to tour next June.
he showed the book that comes with the new album
finished saying 'we could talk all night, well I know i could'
he then finished by sitting at the piano and singing paint the red rose blue and I cant stand up for falling down. It brought tears to the eyes to be so close to magic.
He looked great was on fine form. We were fed and more importantly watered.
I cant thank Good Squad enough for being his plus one.
We all had a photos done with Bill Bailey, Neil McCormack and David hepworth were in attendance. The otehrs got to meet Elvis and there are great photos on facebook etc that i am sure will be shared on here

Re: The Boy If - album playback 19th November
What an amazing afternoon.
My memory recalls:
- him being at Ronnie Scott’s with Chet Baker and a separate story of being given a shout out by Ray Brown
- a shout out to Clare and ExtremeHoney who had told him outside about seeing him in America
- how emotional he was about doing the show last night (and brought lumps to my throat when he spoke about his dad). He said he couldn’t look at the backdrop because he’d have lost it
- the care his dad received when he was ill and sweating about 2 racist English comedians who had donated to a care home
- touring next June over here when things are finalised
- recording the new album and the wizardry of Steve and how there is not a lot of difference in playing over the internet compared to playing remotely in a studio
- Davey learning the double bass
- At the beginning of the pandemic joked how Pete had drummed his way through all of the Beatles, Motown, Stax catalogues
- the Spanish TYM and how the album has brought him a whole new range of listeners
- expanded on a couple of songs from the album and showed us the book set CD of the new album which looks great close up. They wanted to release this as a 10” but there is a shortage of vinyl worldwide
- played a couple of verses on piano of Paint the Red Rose Blue and played a complete I can’t stand up
- how he was requested to play a ballad last night but managed to play 2 songs in his 5 minutes instead
Elvis is a great story teller. He was also in great humour and he’s clearly in a great place personally.
We were also chuffed that he got out of the car and came over to me, goon squad and Clare (just before ExtremeHoney arrived) - “afternoon gents and lady”.
I met Toast outside and he was telling me about the rubbish that is on social media and how some stories appeared about Abbey Road that were not true.
Toast told me not to ask for a photo as Elvis has been doing interviews all morning.
However Elvis came over to us from his car and although we originally had a group photo, goon squad had a picture with Elvis and opened the floodgates.
He chatted with us for 20 minutes or so. He was so relaxed and open. He was well chuffed about Clare and ExtremeHoney seeing him in the US.

Just remembered - he also told a great story about how they were always drunk when they did Top of the Pops as they mined and there was a cheap bar.

I thought the sound system at Ronnie Scott’s wasn’t set up great- we were under a speaker and it distorted the louder, faster songs but the slower Paint The Red Rose Blue sounded glorious. I also thought Davey’s bass in the louder songs was fluid and rhythmic throughout - it might be his best performances on an Imposters record .

A very special event in every way and one that will live in the memory forever. An excellent report above from VG which I can’t really add to..........I’m still in a daze from it !Neil. wrote:Sounds like a brilliant afternoon!

As for the new songs, I thought they sounded fresh and vibrant, proper “old school” EC, and could’ve almost come from the early TYM days! Can’t wait for the album to come out!

Elvis mentioned about the songs and said how much he hates the lazy journalistic term of back to basics.

What is the size of the storybook? Has it the size of a CD?

This covered everything in my review except for the Laurel and Hardy story which explains why a picture posted was deleted very quickly.
