D'oh! Just a bit of pre-emptive unconscious guilt there (and a bit of myslexia, if such a thing exists)... No, indeed it is WSS who's getting my delayed CD (with a bonus disc for being so patient, but shhhhhhh, that's a secret!).

And when am I not drinking, really?

I've been enjoying the CD Chrille sent me. He has introduced me to some new artist and has given me the opportunity to listen to artists I have been meaning to get.

Natural's Not In It - Gang of Four
Crosseyed & Painless - Talking Heads
The Great Deceiver - King Crimson
Everything Merges w/ The Night - Brian Eno
Humdrum - PG
To Wild Home - New Pornographers
In Every Home A Heartache - Roxy Music
Heart - Rockpile
I've Been Riding w/ The Ghost - Songs: Ohia
Nuclear Burn - Brand X
Point Blank - Springsteen
Crown of Love - Arcade Fire
Faithless Lover - Nick Lowe
John Wayne Gacy, Jr - SS
You're The Reason I'm Leaving - FF
Sweet Gene Vincent - Ian Drury
Going Under - Marillon
Broken Chair - Built To Spill

Thanks Chrille. I'm always amazed that there is someone out there in a different country (in this case, Sweden) just like me...atleast where musical taste is concerned. I also have to hand it to the Swedish postal system. Only took 4 days to get to Pittsburgh

I'm not sure what's more distrubing - that he put "Play That Funky Music" and "Afternoon Delight" on this mix or that I already have both of those on cd. Seriously - a nice mix of songs I'm very famialiar with (Squeeze, Jam, Zevon, Undertones, Dylan etc.) - and stuff I haven't heard, but should have (Stereophonics, Neill Finn - Recomendations people - where do I start?) songs by people I'm familar with but hadn't heard before (Billy Bragg's "Olivers Army") - and folks I'd never heard of (Lindisfarne, Busker) - Thanks for this.

Wow , I put the exact same Lindisfarne song on my CD for SLL. They were a fantastic band in their prime - their first three albums are all great. I have a fondess for "Dingly Dell" but "Nicely Out Of Tune" is generally regarded as their best I believe , and it has "Lady Eleanore" and "Clear White Light".

Neil Finn's "One Nil" is probably his best solo record, but there is also all the Crowded House albums of which "Woodface", "Together Alone" and "Temple of the Low Men" are probably the best. Best of all is the first Finn Brothers record with Tim, the follow up is pretty good too but not a patch on the first.

Good ol' IP. we are pretty darned similar. Interesting how the ones from some of my most tresured artisstes are absolutle highlights of their catalogue for me too, e.g. Lloyd, Josh, Damien, Doves, Ron. Don't know Joni + Chieftains. A winning combination! Where's that from?

Chieftains and Joni Mitchell can be found on The Chieftains' album "The Wide World Over" which I think is a compilation of their recordings with various artists. Other artists on the album include Van Morrison, Sinead O'Connor & Ry Cooder, Ricky Skaggs, Diana Krall & Art Garfunkel, Ziggy Marley, Rolling Stones and ... Elvis Costello on "Long Journey Home". First-class disc !!

This is a song from the 80's which I heard back then as a demo, and fell in love with. It's now available officially on the reissue of The Waterboys' debut album (the song was even made a part of the original album, not a bonus track).

Acording to the Amazon link, that song is with the Stones, and the EC one is Chasing The Fox. Like the sound of the extract of Joni, her voice sounds good. I haven't really heard any of her recent stuff, so am not familiar with how it's matured. Very well, on the basis of that. I wonder was it used in The Magdalene Sisters, if that's the correct name of the film about that order of nuns, brutalising teenage mums sent their way, etc.

An obvious mistake on their part. The Rolling Stones play on Rocky Road To Dublin, and Ziggy Marley sings only on Redemption Song.

Haven't seen the movie, but it sure looks like both the song and the film were based on the same events.

I got my CD from ReadyToHearTheWorst.
Here’s the tracklist :
01. McAlmont & Butler – Yes
02. Johnny Boy – You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes
03. 10cc – The Worst Band In The World
04. Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble – Pride And Joy
05. Bloc Party – Banquet
06. Joe Henry – I Flew Over Our House Last Night
07. Sister Sledge – Thinking Of You
08. Harry J All-Stars – Liquidator
09. Graham Parker – You Can’t Be Too Strong
10. Guillemots – Who Left The Lights Off Baby
11. Reel Big Fish – She Has A Girlfriend Now
12. Doves – The Cedar Room
13. Dr. Feelgood – Down At The Doctors
14. Chuck Woods – 7 Days Are Too Long
15. Bright Eyes – First Day Of My Life
16. Kirsty MacColl – England 2 Colombia 0
17. Dave & Amsil Collins Double Barrel
18. Steely Dan – Chain Lightning
19. Arctic Monkeys – Mardy Bum
20. Ronnie Lane – The Poacher
21. Jennifer Holiday – And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going

Excellent disc !
There are a couple of artists here I had never even heard about before, of which two - Reel Big Fish with their delightful, energetic piece of ska, and Johnny Boy sounding like they have been produced by Phil Spector at the peak of his career - are probably my two favourites.

As could be expected, superb songs from Joe Henry, Graham Parker, Steely Dan, Bright Eyes, Doves and Kirsty MacColl (“England 2 Colombia 0” must be one of the most hilarious songs I’ve ever heard !).

The much-talked about new bands, Arctic Monkeys and Guillemots, both sound very promising and will sure make me wait eagerly for their debut albums (especially Guillemots).

All in all, a great selection of artists and genres, which I have been enjoying hugely.

And thanks again for the bonus disc !

Nice eclectic selection! Not heard of the Guillemots. Great name.

http://www.rspb.org.uk/birds/guide/g/gu ... /index.asp

You see them a lot on the coast of Jersey. what are they like?

Arctic Monkeys is sure to be one of the fastest selling CDs ever in the UK, starting tomorrow. I'm going to pick it up for my son, who will satisfy my curiosity to hear it. Like the excitement of buying a much-hyped CD on its day of release, knowing that it will for sure be pretty good.

I really really like what I've heard from them. Both of the singles (but especially "When The Sun Goes Down") are ace. Definitely will be getting this one.

All of these song lists are mouthwatering!

Well sometimes I play the Word CD and it kinda washes over me with high, medium and low points, and if there weren't that many high points. before you know it, a month has passed. Shameful, I know. I do tend to go back to them a few months further on and see if anything I hadn't heard of at the time has become a more familiar name through here etc., so I would have got there in the end...

Otis I do more or less the same thing. I was just giving you shit, you see. How come in the US we give you shit and in the UK you take our piss? I'm just sayin'...
