They've passed me by completely. I was away from England and they didn't register. Then again, so were you IP, and they did! How obscure were they in Poland? A friend is a MASSIVE fan. There's one song which is his favourite dancefloor number (he likes a good mosh). Can't think which. It was interesting to note, if I'm not mistaken, that they didn't register in the NME classic alsbums list. They've sunk into obscurity.
I'm in bootleg land, checking out a hopelessly poor quality New Order Oct 1980 gig at 'The Squat' in Manchester. Never heard of this as a venue. Just a squat house or a real club? Sound is atrocious, but it's fun to hear one of their earliest gigs. Great songs: Procession, Ceremony, Dreams Never End, and those less well-known gems Mesh and Cries And Whispers. I'm deleting after listening, it's just not worth keeping, but it's nice to be able to check things out even if it's just the once.
OK, that's done, and now XTC Life Begins At The Hop. Perfect for a Friday night.

Otis, are you kidding ?! You mean you haven't heard one of the best singles of the 80's, "Kennedy" ?! They were (still are? a good album last year !) a great band, mixing frenetic, jangly guitars with infectious tunes. If you ever want to check them out, I recommend their debut album called George Best (a 'must' for a fan of ManU ), Seamonsters, widely regarded as their masterpiece, or Bizarro, if only for the building-guitars-heaven, which is "Kennedy".Otis Westinghouse wrote:They've passed me by completely. They've got their loyal fan base in Poland. Otherwise they would not be planning to tour here in a couple of months! Very tempting, though I suppose I would have to make 250km to see them.
As for sinking into obscurity, I guess it's the case of many 80's bands.
House Of Love - were they good ? Did they sink into obscurity ? They released an album last year, which got quite good reviews, but it's probably too late or not the right time for 80's indie bands to return.
Brilliant Aztec Camera - they didn't register in NME 100, but I do hope it doesn't mean they've been forgotten ? I'd say at least their debut album should be in Top 100.
Same applies to Teenage Fanclub and many other bands of that era.
[My God, is this the longest post I've ever written ? ]
Anyway, if you ever get the chance, listen to The Wedding Present. Surely one of the best indie bands of the 80's and 90's.

Yeah, I must. They just passed me by. Respect, of course, to a band with an LOP calloed George Best, and the best, sorry Best LP cover ever. House of Love never did much for me, but don't know much. Teenage Fanclub I could get into. A kind of Scottish Byrds. Aztecs, yes, the first LP is good, but just like Orange Juice, my real faves were the Postcard singles. Oblivious is nice too.

In a desperate attempt to appear hip and relevant (and this is much harder for me than for the Stones, and I don't get the big bucks for doing so), I bought the new Paste magazine (in Walmart, of course) and I'm listening to the sampler cd. It apparently does not conform to my computer's expectations, because it (the computer) keeps going all blue screen on me. Maybe I'll get a haircut instead.
Like me, the "g" is silent.

I have to write a paper so for the next three hours I'll be listening to this South Florida Punk-folk Band and their trilogy of Love and Dissent.
By the way. verbal gymnastics wrote:
I would think that it would be terribly expensive to get the rollings stones in for an orgy, it's probably doable, but too expensive. Is this a CD or have you got the Rolling Stones at your house in some depraved orgy?
