Am listening to Ray Davies' Other People's Lives, specifically "Is There Life After Breakfast," at this very momentBlueChair wrote:"Everytime We Say Goodbye" by John Coltrane, from the album My Favorite Things

What a fool I was
What a thin disguise
Brando mumble
Mingus eyes
Was a time she fell
But then she got wise
Brando mumble
Mingus eyes
I never had the squint of James Dean
Or the Stanislavsky tears
Or the rebel hunch that kills
Or the smile that slowly disappears
What a fool I was
What a thin disguise
Brando mumble
Mingus eyes
Brando mumble
Mingus eyes
What a thin disguise
Brando mumble
Mingus eyes
Was a time she fell
But then she got wise
Brando mumble
Mingus eyes

Or the smile that slowly disappears
What a fool I was
What a thin disguise
Brando mumble
Mingus eyes
Brando mumble
Mingus eyes
What this world needs is more silly men.

So what was going on in your life? There's almost nothing I can bear to listen to by them, not that I have that as an option, so I'm happy to not realise what was going on in Paul's.
I'm playing Katie Melua. Yes, indeed. My wife is keen, and I wanted to hear what she did to the Cure's gorgeous Just Like Heaven. Well, it was pretty predictable. Yawwwn. Nice photos all over the booklet, mind.

There's more to life than books, you know, but not much more

Dodgy haircut, dodgy clothes, rubbish Paul Weller albums (The Cost of Loving, Confessions of a Pop Group), no Elvis to speak of...Otis Westinghouse wrote:So what was going on in your life? Foo Fighters - In Your Honor. It's like they've made two 40 minute albums, the first sounds like a pretty good regular Foo Fighters album, it would have been enough. The second, is Grohl playing acoustic, mostly mellow stuff - about half the songs seem like works in progress, Grohl bursts of inspiration that he might polish later but that still draw you in. Although Disc 2 might not hold up as well after a few more listens, Disc 1 should. Fave songs: Disc 1: Resolve, No Way Back, Free Me; Disc 2: What If I Do, Friend Of A Friend, Cold Day In The Sun

Paul Kelly & The Stormwater Boys - Foggy Highway
It ranges from plaintive solo performances by Paul Kelly to full band bluegrass jamming. Most of it sounds like a mix of folk and country though. It sounds great - banjo, fiddle, accordion... Features a Louvin Bros cover with Kasey Chambers, You're Learning. And on the 4 song bonus disc I got, Rank Stranger (Albert E Brumley) which Bob Dylan also covered. I'm listening to this in anticipation of hearing Bruce Springsteen's new The Seeger Sessions album.
