I don't know much about Australian films, so maybe you could give me some tips, Tim(e)?

(My faves are Ghosts Of The Civil Dead, Fistful Of Flies & Once Were Warriors, in that order.)

Firstly as Mike stated, Once Were Warriors is a New Zealand film and is one of the best (along with Jackson's Heavenly Creatures). Now, as for Australian films on DVD, here are a few with links to an online store called EzyDVD:

Two Hands - the film that put Heath Ledger on the map... very enjoyable romp in the vein of Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells.

Bad Boy Bubby - a very strange little film by Rolf de Heer.

The Cars That Ate Paris - one of Peter Weir's first and in my opinion, one of his best.

Crackerjack - a funny feelgood comedy about lawn bowls.

The Japanese Story - Toni Collette in a rather unusual love story.

Lantana - brilliant Australian drama starring Anthony la Paglia, Barbara Hershey and Geoffrey Rush.

Leunig Animated - the cartoons of talented Australian Michael Leunig brought to life in animated format... these are superb in anyone's language.

Harvie Krumpet - winner of the Oscar for best animated short last year as well as numerous other awards around the world.

There are many more, but that should be enough to go on with for the moment.

Thanks a lot, will look into it, and sorry about the NZ mixup. I plead ignorance as usual. (Right continent at least)

No problem... if I get time and think of more I will add them to the list.

Well, correct hemisphere at least ;) Collectively, Oz and NZ are known as Australiasia, but we are definitely not on the same continent... unless of course you are referring to Sydney's Eastern suburbs which abound with expatriate NZers ;)

I was thinking of the Swedish word for continent (part of the world, really), which doesn't exclusively refer to a single land mass. Up here Australasia is often referred to as a 'continent' (Oceanien). Never thought about the language difference before, so thanks for teaching me!

Club Date, though I'm sure I'll agree with VG's assessment on the relevant thread (that they should have waited till they got the new songs really naile,d like now). Can't wait, all the same.

I've never thought of that line as having a ?. Thought it was an ironic joke about wanting to watch something good when all you get is the non-square with the corkscrew hair.

The Television man is crazy
Saying we're juvenile delinquent wrecks
Man I need TV when I got T. Rex?

Ive always thought of it as a rhetorical question in reply to the "Televsion Man" - Bowie was a big Bolan fan and wrote Lady Stardust about him. Awesomely great song either way. Love Mott the Hooples version with all the "hey you with glasses" bit at the end.

Picked up the Criterion 2-disc of The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

The bonus disc is bloody brilliant... especially Seu Jorge's ten full-length performances of David Bowie songs in Portugese.
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

Ramones End of the Century. Actually split the cost with my 12 year old, who's a big fan! Watched the first 20 mins or so with him. Great stuff. Interviews are a scream. Blitzkrieg Bop live is great.

Harold and Maude

Great movie and wonderful Cat Stevens soundtrack - the fore-runner for such films as Rushmore and The Royal Tennenbaums.

And with Bud Cort appearing in Life Aquatic, the circle is complete!

Sometimes I get movies from Netflix that I have no recollection of ever having heard of, let alone ordering. I mean, how the hell did "The Girl from Monday" beat Season 1 of America's Next Top Model to the top of my queue?! Hal Hartley, schmal schmartley.

Ms. BA -- did you ever consider becoming an entertainment critic? You've just shown you have all the neccessary skills! :D

Now, try this..."Orson Welles, Orson schmells!" (or alternatively "Orson smells!")

You do, indeed! He's great in it. The whole cast is perfect, actually. Says me.

Let me amend my earlier statement: Hal Hartley, Hal Fartley!

Let's leave Hal Hartley alone. He made Trust and Henry Fool so he's good peoples in my book.
