The noun is fixed. Read my mind.

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Rope, it sounds like someone is ripping off John Lennon, from the flipside of "Hello, Goodbye"

Self and I

Post by A rope leash »

I just can't figure the difference between "self" and "I". God told Moses to tell them that "I" sent these commandments. Does that mean that God is Moses? If he tells the people "I sent these comandments", does it have the same impact as "God sent these commandments"?

Confusing.

Anyway, if anybody wants to play this stupid game the noun is fixed.

Inquiry

Post by A rope leash »

I think "broken" would make a great adjective for this noun, although I don't believe I've ever heard it used with it.

It does not have physical dimensions that I am aware of.

I do not think I can say it has a color, but if it did, black more than red.

It might be possible to "read" it, if one were studying it, but it can't be read like a book or road map.

Sure is good to be home.

Hmm... with what sense or senses would one predominantly perceive it?

Very excellent

Post by A rope leash »

Right good question there, Bam'oo. Here's the clue:

To a person who is not experiencing it, it is percieved mainly through the eyes, and sometimes through the ears.

To a person that is experiencing it, if it is percieved at all it is percieved largely by the brain.

So very close!

Post by A rope leash »

It could not be "death", because it is not percieved by the nose.

It is not "nightmare", but without this, you couldn't have one.

O sure, sweet, deep, dark, death dream.

The noun is right there. Look at the clues. You may know what it is, but perhaps unconciously.

I never have "sweet" dreams. It's always about something bizarre, like the government stealing everybody's shoes. Now, why would they do that? Believe me, in the dream, I was taking it very seriously!

Slumber time

Post by A rope leash »

Thank you Hung-Strung!

Sleep of the Just

The soldier asked my name and did i come here very often
Well i thought that he was asking me to dance
In my holy coat and hat and him in his red bonnet
We'd have made a lovely couple but we never had the chance

[chorus]
And now you say that you've got to go
Well if you must you must
I suppose that you need the sleep of the just

Well it was a powerful day and there were black crows in the road
And i kept my strong opinions to my chest
I suppose i should have told them that i was on fire for you
When the bus burst into flames outside some place, 'the poet's rest'

[chorus]

A girl woke up in a naked light and said "oh no not again"
He even looked like her brother in the army but she never mentions him
He'll be tucked up in his bed tonight with his dirty-pictures girl
Saying, 'you're some mother's daughter you know or is it
Immaterial girl?'

Now she's pinned up upon the barracks wall in her home town
All the soldiers taking turns with their attentions
And as they speculate what she'd look like beneath that thin nightgown
His family pride was rising up as he cast his eyes down

Is "immaterial girl" a sort of jab at Madonna?

Immaterial girl....that's what I've heard, but I don't believe it's a madonna reference, it's really out of place in this song.
I think it means that the guy is with some local floozy (like his sister) and she's really irrelevant to him ("just some mother's daughter") and the fact she's wearing nothing..immaterial girl, as opposed to a material girl fixed on wanting fashionable clothes, this one just wants a shag?

I never really got the line...

I don't get this whole song

Post by A rope leash »

The "poet's rest" sound like a place where poets might hang out. That damn comma and apostrophe throws me off. Maybe it's the slogan for some pub.

I can see Kesey's acid-bus going up while he parties inside. But that doesn't settle with the military atmosphere, does it? When I think of that, it sounds like an attack of some sort.

I can see the 'black crows in the road' being people that have been tarred and feathered for not fighting, hence keeping strong anti-war opinions to herself.

Yeah I thought it might be a pub...so maybe it's some kind of unrest between pro/anti war demonstrators?

Great great song though...have you heard that version on the Elvis Costello tribute album Almost You done by these guys Id never heard of, Kev Russel'd Junker? It's really good, their style really suits the song.
