The Coral album is a slow-burning delight. Possibly their most accomplished to date.
I love the Hawley board. Splendid atmosphere, and good on Richard for taking the time.

Agree with The Coral album, got all their others and this one is a real slow burner. What they do is so simple butso effective. Love it.

Currently listeniong to

Over and Over - Hot Chip
Hurricane - Athlete

Lucinda's World Without Tears. I'm so glad I picked this up. It's definitely the start of a long love affair. What's more, my friend's mom (The infamous Debbie) picked it up after I played it in the car. So I've got someone sharing it with me. I'm discovering all the old stuff that I wasn't around to get. Liking what no one else (in my age group, that is) even knows about is one of the joys of my life. But yeah, I digress. Lucinda is excellent, and I'm going to get more stuff by her, definitely.
Why don't you write about it in your blag?

Car Wheels on a Gravel Road should be next. Lucinda's best I think.

My 13 year old son always says Lucinda sounds so depressed. Because she's not poppin' the cris or whatever, I suppose.

Car Wheels is most excellent.

Neil Young, Chrome Dreams II. It's everything I thought it would be.

One of my favorite jazz albums of all time. Superb, swinging, super-funky '60s hard bop...

Enjoyed my first play of the new Jens Lekman earlier. Delightfully fun stuff.

I just noticed that the new album by The Coral is already down to £4.97 on CD over at Amazon! (Go via the link at the top folks!)

Listened to the Mark Ronson album of covers with guest singers (Mme Solacks choice) but not that impressed. I liked the AmyW take on the Zutons' Valerie but the Pretty Green cover was terrible. The rest inbetween.

Poetic Champions Compose..Yikes. What a nice record.

The opening instrumental "Spanish Steps" is worth the price of the whole album and the prefect preface for the remainder of the songs.

T-Bone's Greatest Hits-type collection. Shame he had to monkey around with by updating great tunes like "Fatally Beautiful" and "Hula Hoop," which were fine as they were.

Radiohead - In Rainbows. God it's lovely.

Earlier:

St Vincent - Marry Me - one of my recent faves. Great versatility in the songs, many of which are memorable. Great voice. If you want to hear a talented woman with an interesting LP, you could do a lot worse.

Edwyn Collins - Home Again - lovely. Overriding theme seems to be his roots, his real home, vs. London, his adoptive home, and the uneasy sense of non-belonging it seems to bring. Very listenable as a piece, and full of quality songs. If you care for Edwyn, you'll love this. I read he's going to be on the Electric Proms on the telly this week. I must see him!

The New Pornographers - Challengers

Thank you WSS! Nice listening. Fairly undemanding, but very pleasant with it. Good tunes. Nice bright arrangements. Crowded House-esque.

This guy was in the band Semisonic and wrote a bunch of songs for The Dixie Chicks' most recent album. This is his debut solo album and it's quite good... kind of reminds me of The Jayhawks with a bit more of a pop influence to it.

Goin' Out West (different performances)
(Tom Waits/K. Brennan)
Well I'm goin' out west
Where the wind blows tall
'Cause Tony Franciosa
Used to date my ma
They got some money out there
They're giving it away
I'm gonna do what I want
Do what I want
And I'm gonna get paid

Little brown sausages
Lying in the sand
I ain't no extra baby
I'm a leading man
Well my parole officer
WIll be proud of me
With my Olds 88
And the devil on a leash
My Olds 88
And the devil on a leash

Well I kno karate, Voodoo too
I'm gonna make myself available to you
I don't need no make up
I got real scars
I got hair on my chest
I look good without a shirt

Well I don't lose my composure
In a high speed chase
Well my friends think I'm ugly
I got a masculine face
I got some dragstrip courage
I can really drive a bed
I'm gonna change my name
To Hannibal or maybe
Just Rex
Change my name to Hannibal
Or maybe just Rex

I'm gonna drive all night
Take some speed
I'm gonna wait for the sun
To shine down on me
I cut a hole in my roof
In the shape of a heart

And I'm goin' out west
Where they'll appreciate me
Goin' out west
Goin' out west
