My personal history of District sightings took a turn for the cool yesterday [9/24]. Elvis Costello strolled past me as I was waiting for the Circulator bus in front of the Four Seasons in Georgetown. He was toting a large Barnes & Noble bag, was dressed in a disheveled, rock star way and seemed to be enjoying his walk.

The boys in the band

In Pilates class, after holding the Superman pose forever while a gravelly voice sang the ballad of John Henry, the Steel-Drivin’ Man, Buzz collapsed like John Henry on our mat. Weakly, we said to the teacher, “That was a nice CD. Who was that?â€

Costello, Wolf dine out

Between shows this week in Worcester and Manchester, N.H., Elvis Costello slipped into Boston, dining at Lala Rokh on Beacon Hill with old pal Peter Wolf. (Costello is touring with Bob Dylan.) Wolf was out and about even more than usual this week.

Friend of mine told me yesterday he'd seen Elv in the toy department of John Lewis (department store) in London a few months ago. Rare visit to England!

Now I know Elvis don't ride no bikes - but does he ski?

DK's official site had this posted earlier in the week -
Diana would like to wish all of her fans a very happy 2008!

Diana is currently taking a break from touring and is enjoying time with her family. Her twin boys are walking now and keeping her busy! When Diana is not at home looking after them, we hear she is often out on the slopes or walking the fabulous seawall near her home in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Diana Krall was spotted hand-holding with her husband Elvis Costello and wearing very sexy black and white eye glasses in West Van's Savary Island Pie Company. They were enjoying a late lunch.

Swanky Yorkville boîte Boba (90 Avenue Road, at Cumberland, 416-961-2622) gets its fair share of celebrities, most notably an openly canoodling newlywed Elvis Costello and Diana Krall.

The party mentioned here -

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedish ... ost-5.html

'Nicolas Berggruen's purported pre-Oscar fete Wednesday night (Feb.20) at the Chateau Marmont'

was going on in my hotel wednesday night; I walked through the middle of it as I came home from seeing a show, after waking past an absolute phalanx of paparazzi to reach the door.

I didn't spend a lot of time actually *at* the party, other than walking past Elvis Costello and Diane Krall, Natalie Portman, Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer, Matt Leblanc, and likely several others. The real entertainment was the view of exactly how insane the papaprazzi swarm was. Even when I couldn't recognize the particular people from the back as they left the party, I could tell exactly how big a deal they are at the moment by the number of flashes that went off as they walked down the driveway.

Here's the rundown on today's crowd:

14. Elvis Costello, who arrived with a briefcase brimming with files and passed the time riffling through them until an unidentified British gent who was sporting a Safari jacket arrived a few minutes later.

One day in New York City is often equal to a million days anywhere else on Earth. It's rather amazing that Tom and I don't have pneumonia today as we must have walked at least two miles in the cold rain yesterday (with no umbrella or raincoats. Man, we are dumb).

After lunch we moseyed on down to Barney's New York where Tom spotted Elvis Costello wandering through women's handbags. I am really truly awful with the celebrity spotting. As with Gabriel Byrne, I never would have noticed Elvis unless someone pointed him out to me.

Whoppee!! a YouTube video of a stooped, paunchy and apparently full EC getting into a mercedes with his wife (no talkie), carefully putting on his seat belt (so much for rock star antics), and driving very slowly away into a night of further debauchery. Brings to mind an old picture of a skinny, young EC, hands in pocket and looking defiantly at the camera while siddled up to a racy sportscar. Very depressing... and creepy. The restaurant details add the finishing touch. I wonder what he's up to today.

Elvis doesn't look too happy to be spotted in that clip.

Nice Benz!!

This kind of stuff crosses the line a little bit in my opinion. Let the man have dinner out with his wife. Yeah, I clicked it open, but felt a little bad for doing it. Just not that interesting, except I DO wonder how well Elvis can handle himself in tricky LA traffic, whether he gets road rage, signals properly, whether he gets angry when Diana tries to back-seat drive, that kind of thing.

Agreed. My rather hurried posting of this at lunchtime might have been better contextualised if I had posted the link with a comment something like 'Elvis is in L.A. , as this piece of media intrusion tells us.' It's noteworthy 'cos, as may be remembered, the last time , earlier this year, Elvis was spotted making a , seemingly, brief visit there he ended up recording a album. I'm still going with the hunch that he was taping a cameo as a gay wine waiter for '24'.

A Friday night StarWatch from a tipster: "Last night, Osteria Mozza (9/5). In the private room in the back--Thomas Keller, Grant Achatz, Mozza investor/Everybody Loves Raymond/EP Phil Rosenthal, Elvis Costello and wife Diana Krall together at casual gathering (said to be noshing on pizza and salad). Everyone was in and out in about 90 minutes. FWIW, Gavin Rossdale in the restaurant." Keller and Achatz in LA? The earth must've stood still for just a few moments.

Rock royalty doesn't come more dignified than Elvis Costello and Diana Krall. Last Sunday, the married couple enjoyed a romantic dinner at Eddie V's Downtown and became so enthralled with the Kris Kimura Quartet that Krall eventually sat in with the local jazz ensemble for renditions of "Route 66" and "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good to You." "You could hear a pin drop the moment she came up on stage," recalls Kimura, still giddy with excitement. "People from the other side of the restaurant came over to the lounge. It was just unreal." Costello and Krall left with copies of both Kimura CDs, only to return the following evening with glowing reviews and partake in an extended encore that ended with Costello leading "My Funny Valentine." "The second night is a little bit of a blur," Kimura says. "I was so overwhelmed that I literally had trouble breathing
