George Plimpton

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

It's just that people have taken to reporting them here recently, I think... I don't know if many of you have heard of Slim Dusty (famous Australian country singer), but he also died this week and had a state funeral today. There's a link at this page to perhaps his best known song, The Pub With No Beer: http://www.hog.ch/hogtavel/travel/Austr ... /aus96.htm
And did anyone mention Charles Bronson?

Maybe there should be a "miscellaneous deaths" thread, aside from Johnny Cash and so on.

Well, the main reason I posted this is that I know many who dig EC also dig the Simpsons and Mr. Plimpton had quite a humourous cameo in the "spelling bee" episode. Otherwise, I would have let it pass.

Carry on.....

That's very interesting, Bamboo. I listened to that song for which you gave the link. I wasn't familiar with him, but thanks for sharing that.

And yes, someone did mention Charles Bronson a while back. I think it was Cope.

I must admit I've actually liked having the notifications on celeb deaths - with my crazy schedule I sometimes completely miss finding out some of this news. I just hate it when I don't find out for weeks afterward!

I think 2003 has had a disproportionate number of celebrity deaths. But maybe not. Seems like it.

Wasn't Plimpton the narrator on Mousterpiece theater?

Wasn't he also a quarterback for the Detroit Lions?

Or was he someone else?
