Elvis Costello Announces The Return Of The Spectacular Spinn

Post by Jeremy Dylan »

Elvis Costello and the Imposters have announced “The Revolver Tour” during the merry month of May.

For the first time in 25 years, Costello will let his set-list be chosen by ”The Spectacular Spinning Songbook”, a monumental game-show wheel that features 40 song-titles, including hits, rarities and very unexpected covers.

Audience members will be invited onstage where they may spin "The Wheel" and then be offered a chance to enter the "Hostage to Fortune Go-Go Cage", while their selection is performed.

Alternatively, they may choose to take a seat in the on-stage “Society Lounge”, where light refreshments will be served, during what promises to be a splendid and surprising evening.

The original Wheel was famously donated to the Hartlepool Museum Of Showbusiness Machinery but it has been meticulously reconstructed from the original blueprints.

"The Revolver Tour" includes stops at The Wiltern in Los Angeles May 11, and two nights at New York's Beacon Theatre May 22 & 23.

See below for a complete list of dates.

The Imposters are: Steve Nieve (keyboards); Pete Thomas (drums) and Davey Faragher (bass).

I dread the ticket prices for this. I'd love to see the Philly show, since the Attractions (non-wheel) night there was the last of the 1986 tour, and my first EC show.

Chicago base price only goes up to $ 78, I think.

Hartlepool Museum Of Showbusiness Machinery

Some kind of joke here , I suspect .

The closest match is this -

http://www.hartlepoolsmaritimeexperience.com/?p=Home

- which seems to be primarily naval. Not , then, a destination for The Elvis Costello Heritage Trail .

Does anyone know when the other presales are to begin?
Specifically, the Tower Theatre show.

Wish I could afford/make all three, but it's looking like the Monday show at the Beacon for me. Wife is in Brazil the week before that.

Still, cannot wait. I was at the Olympia and Folies Bergere shows in Paris. I believe that both featured the Spinning Songbook, but I could be wrong, since it was just Nieve at the Folies. Definitely the Olympia show.

I'm considering going for the VIP package for one of the shows. Has anyone done this in the past? If so, is it worth it? It doesn't seem like backstage access is included. Would love to hear any insight.

Awesome! I missed this show in 86 at the Tower in Phila. It was sold out. I went to Confederates show, though. I left the venue smiling. I wonder how many songs they will play in one show.. 40 options is nice. I think I want to hang in the social lounge, although the thought of going on stage and breaking the wheel, and having it spin off its hinges and end up rolling over someone to their death, is keeping me on the side lines. Should be a fun show (sans the rolling wheel death part) and will be in Oaksterdam early May for sure.

Bummed that the bay area stop this time is at the Fox. That place has absolutely the worst sound of any venue I've ever been in. (Not that that'll stop me from going, mind you...)

It's being such an optimist that keeps you going eh Mojo ?
Brilliant, cheery thoughts. I was always scared I'd get called up and a microphone lead would appear dangling from the front of my shirt. The closest to that was walking to my seat at the Royal festival Hall for the Bacharach gig with the mike dangling around my groin area ! Fortunately the elderly stewardess didn't seem to notice.
Mrs. Sulky has been advised about the upcoming tour and the urgent need for me to make up for not getting to the Texas and Oklahoma shows in 2009 but I think I'm "Living In paradise" with the hopes !

A couple of thoughts. Back in 1986, Costello had a lot of songs, but not NEARLY as many as he has now.

Which means that I hope that he'll show some courage in putting some real obscurities and interesting cover choices up on that big wheel. It would be a shame for too many precious slots to be taken up by songs like "Watching The Detectives" that are so familiar and played on every tour.

Also, since he's calling it The Revolver Tour, I kind of hope that a few Beatles songs from that album are under consideration...

ARGH! I have the distinct feeling that Elvis has a hate on for playing in Canada despite the song North and it's aspirations of proving his love.
