verena - a simplistic definition of a bootleg would be an illegal recording such as live albums that have never been officially released eg anything you'll see in the Trading Post threads or sometimes illegal studio recordings eg Unloved Songs Volumes 1 and 2 as I reported in the General Discussion thread which feature a whole batch of EC songs/recordings that have (yet) to see the light of day.
