The Things We Do For Love

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

The Things We Do For Love

Post by Boy With A Problem »

Not a 10cc tribute thread -

I bought tickets today for a Tears For Fears concert. I did this because my wife said "please, please, please, please etc etc." - I'm not a fan and it will be hard for me not to turn juvenile during the show (like I did during the Eric Carmen portion of Ringo's All-Star tour a couple of years back)

A couple of years ago I took her to see Aerosmith - again - I'm not a fan.

I once gave in and took a girlfriend to a Poison show (they hadn't broke yet - there were only about 75 other people in the club - still I knew better ).

Who have you paid money to see only because you love the one you're with?
Everyone just needs to fuckin’ relax. Smoke more weed, the world is ending.

This is not quite love in the sense you intended, but I once saw the Dave Matthews Band because my sister and two of her friends needed someone to drive them there to see it, 2 hours away in Nashville. They bribed me with a free ticket so I went ...

not a concert, but I did sit through Boogeyman sunday night, mostly with eyes closed tight and hands over ears because the husband wanted to see it.

Styx. Might have been Foreigner. It was a long time ago.

I broke up with him the next day.

Hey, I like Tears for Fears! And not ironically, either!

I have been blessed with boyfriends who had good taste in music, so this thread doesn't really apply to me. Ha!

My own example is even further away, since it was more fear of boredom than "love", but I did once attend one of the Doobie Brothers farewell shows in Berkeley because of a free ticket. I basically focused all my energy on John McFee and that this meant they wouldn't be making more records for awhile!

My wife loves Def Leppard from back in the day (thankfully her tastes have improved since then). But I got her 3d row seats a few years back. And as much as I hate them, even worse, I kinda enjoyed the show!

Damn, I love Def Leppard! Brings back some really good memories for me.

I've been to so many shows here that you guys would curse me for, so I'm not even going to mention them all. . . .

Sheena Easton at the Dominion Theatre in London in 1981.

I defy *anybody* to come up with anything worse than that. I was 18 at the time and with overactive teenage hormones

Tori Amos as my partner was a big fan so I bought him tickets as a surprise. I wasn't keen on going and I was right to be fearful. It was the worst i've ever seen and i've seen some dire support acts in my time but this beat the lot! Not only could we not understand a single word she sung but she completely ignored the audience as if we were not present, to the point of being downright rude! My partner was so disgusted with the poor performance that halfway through the concert he asked if I would mind if we left - something I had been wanting to suggest but didnt feel I could! What a big fat waste of money!

Well, much like Pip's situation, the name of this thing is not love(more like strained politeness) but I once listened to someone brag about a Styx/Journey/Kansas triple bill that they attended.

"It was just, like, the best rock show. And that's what I wanted....rock and roll music."

That I didn't go house and pole axe that person then and there was an enormous test of my humanity.

Never seen a bad show for love. But I had to wear a pink bowtie and cumberbund to my girlfriend's junior prom for love.

Sade (1989 or so): excruciatingly dull music; fabulous derriere. Not all was lost.

Oh, I can soooo beat that. Take your pick:

For/with my Mom:
John Denver at Radio City Music Hall

For/with my ex, who was "expected to go" by his boss because a block of tickets had been purchased: (drumroll please)
The Kenny Rogers Christmas Show, at the Boston Garden. I can't begin to tell you what that is like. Let me tell you, his singing was the highlight. This was an extravaganza of Christian tackiness. No amount of $6 beers would ameliorate the shame. Believe me, we tried.

Ya know, I once took a girlfiend to a Depeche Mode show. The singles tour in like 98 or 99 I think.

Not that I hated DM at the time, but I gotta tell you, I thouroughly loved the show, to my surprise.

There WAS this weird guy dressed in a silver space suit playing keyboards at the back of the stage, but that coulda just been the ecstasy.
