Those are probably my favorites as well. Can't say much more than that.

That was great -- I'd heard the performance a zillion times, but had never seen it.

These writeups are amazing, CS. Just one thing -- that quote's from The Merchant Of Venice.

Pump It Up in 6/8
I've seen plenty of videos of this recent arrangement (drool). Has someone posted an audio file of it? If so, can someone point me to the thread? I thank you.

It's still close enough to the original. Paul doesn't change his songs, but based on this, it couldn't hurt. (And I can say that, 'cos I'm a fan.)

Re: Will EC sell live tracks from REVOLVER tour via his webs
I e-mailed Robyn Hitchcock's webmaster about releasing the recent "Hunky Dory" (David Bowie album, covered by Robyn) show on the Interwebs, and he basically said it would be impossible, due to what they'd have to pay to license the songs compared to what they'd be able to seel them for (re...

There was about a 10-year period where his songs were copyrighted under the MacManus name. Has anyone (ANCT) figured out when he reverted to Costello for his copyrights?

Good ol' Doc.
I notice that at the start of "Peace In Our Time" he plays the intro to "Withered And Died". Was this standard for him?

I didn't even consider how the tornados might have affected our little world here. So happy to find that the ECFF is alive and well, and even more so to find that the Spookys are the same. Hang in there!

I finally listened to "Cowgirl In The Sand" from this show, and it strikes me that somebody (Elvis?) insisted on playing on the chords for "Down By The River" over it.

Warning: heavy acronym usage ahead. I'm right there with you, Christopher. This was the first album of his that didn't stick with me no matter how many times I played it. Each of its predecessors, from MAIT all the way up to PFM, had been absorbed relatively easily, to the point where I could Name T...

Ben Folds' version of the Spinning Songbook
I've only been to one Ben Folds show in my life (despite how much I love the man's albums) and I was not surprised that each interlude between songs was full of audience members shouting requests. Recently Ben announced that he would be accepting song requests at an upcoming show via paper airplane,...

Gathering of the Vibes? Ugh. This is an annual festival held in beautiful Bridgeport CT (where I currently live, and if you saw the recent Family Guy Xmas episode with a reference to the Park City you'll get my sarcasm) set up by a bunch of local Deadheads to fill the void left by the passing of Jer...

Re: "In time we can turn these obsessions into careers"MLAR2
If I recall, and I may be wrong, EC got the MTV Unplugged show because Jane's Addiction bailed. And he was already halfway through his own tour, and he was already hoarse. A couple of weeks later I saw him in the same amphitheater that was full for the Spike tour two years earlier, only this time it...

I've posted several times here in defense of MLAR. And I enjoy reading Christopher's essays -- always well thought out, and good for debate.
I loved the album when it came out, and still like it today. I put it up there with his better albums, as opposed to his lesser albums.

Re: The Return Of The Imposter: National Ransom No.2
Meanwhile, I've finally listened closely to this new version (thanks again Doc!) and while I don't hate it, I prefer the straightforward take of the album version. This one is certainly adventurous, from the opening keyboard part that's a cross between "Someday My Prince Will Come" and &qu...
